The Orange tree was originally a native of the Far East, particularly China and India, and was not used medicinally in Europe until late in the 17th century, as it was considered both rare and expensive. the oranges adapted well to the climate of the Mediterranean, where it grows abundantly, as well as California, Israel and South America.
The properties of Orange oil are mildly sedative, antidepressant and has a normalising effect on the peristaltic action of the intestines. It is a wonderful oil to use in the winter, as it is very cheering as a winter bath oil, but only use a small amount of drops (no more than 4).
If you have a burner put a couple of drops in the water with clove essential oil, or cinnamon. Mixed in equal amounts with Lemon essential oil and diluted with warm water it is useful as a mouthwash and gum tonic and treats mouth ulcers.
Put a couple of drops in a carrier oil, such as almond oil, and massage into your neck and arms for a treat and pick me up, if you have constipation massage gently in a circular movement around the bowel area for three circular movements up to the rib cage.
