The concept of Chakra goes back a long way - dating back to 2000 BC and found in the Vedas - the Hindu ancient texts. Theses were written largely by the Aryans. The Aryans were said to have invaded India on chariots, and the original meaning of the word chakra as "wheel" refers to the chariot wheels of the invading Aryans. Chakras are the body's energy centres. While there are many energy centres, most healing techniques focus on seven major areas corresponding with seven groups of major nerve endings. Chakras are thus claimed to be the bodies main regions of spiritual energy flow.
